Herbaceous perennial native to Europe and naturalized worldwide. As a food, young leaves may be incorporated in salads or as a potherb.  

Traditional usage (TWM): antimicrobial and antiinflammatory, wound healing, immunotonic, soothing, diuretic. Source of antibacterial tannins and cell-proliferating allantoin. 

Plants thrive in sun or shade, moist or sodden soils. Broad, oval, bright green leaves.   Sow seed on surface of soil in early spring. Seed prefers cool soils for germination, which can take up to 6 weeks. Space plants 1 foot apart.
